Provider credentials

What do these letters mean?

Our providers hold a range of credentials. Here is what each designation means and how it shapes the care you receive.

  • MD / DOPhysicians. Both are full medical doctors trained to provide OB and GYN care; the DO degree adds osteopathic manipulative medicine training. Both deliver babies and perform surgery.
  • CNMCertified Nurse Midwife. A registered nurse with graduate training in midwifery; CNMs provide prenatal care, attend births in hospitals, and offer well-woman GYN visits.
  • WHNP / FNP / NPNurse Practitioners. Advanced-practice nurses who provide well-woman exams, prenatal visits, and gynecologic care alongside our physicians.
  • PA-CPhysician Assistant. Advanced-practice clinicians who practice medicine in collaboration with our physicians. PAs conduct comprehensive OB and GYN visits, diagnose conditions, and deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. (The profession is gradually adopting "Physician Associate" as a new title; a handful of states have officially renamed it so far, though Arizona still uses "Physician Assistant.")
