Prepare for Your Virtual Visit
A MomDoc Virtual Visit gives you face-to-face time with your provider from the comfort of home. A few minutes of preparation will make your visit as productive as an in-office appointment.
Find a Quiet, Private Space
Choose a well-lit room where you can speak freely about your health. Background noise and interruptions make it harder for your provider to focus on you.
Have Your Medication List Ready
Include prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, supplements, and vitamins. Your provider may need to adjust dosages or discuss interactions.
Write Down Your Questions
Virtual visits move quickly. Having a written list ensures you cover everything you want to discuss without forgetting something after you disconnect.
Check Your Vitals (If Applicable)
If you have a home blood pressure cuff or thermometer, take a reading before your visit. Your provider may ask for these numbers. If you do not have equipment, that is fine.
Gather Recent Records
If you have been seen by another doctor, had lab work, or received imaging since your last MomDoc visit, have those results available to share on screen.
Charge Your Device
Ensure your phone, tablet, or laptop has a full charge. A video visit typically lasts 15 to 30 minutes, and a dead battery mid-appointment is avoidable.
How a Virtual Visit Works
MomDoc uses a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. No app download is required.
- Schedule your visit by calling or texting 480-821-3601. Let us know you prefer a virtual appointment.
- Receive your link. Before your appointment, we send a secure video link via text message or email.
- Click the link at your appointment time. Your browser opens the video session. Your provider joins from their office.
- Have your conversation. Your provider reviews your concerns, examines what they can see on camera, and creates a plan of care.
- Follow-up is handled the same way as an in-office visit. Prescriptions go directly to your pharmacy. Lab orders are sent to your preferred lab. Follow-up appointments are scheduled before you disconnect.
Tech Requirements
Virtual visits work on any device with a camera, microphone, and internet connection. Here is what you need:
| Requirement | Details |
| Device | Smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop with a webcam |
| Browser | Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge (latest version recommended) |
| Internet | Stable Wi-Fi or cellular data (4G LTE or faster) |
| Camera | Front-facing camera, positioned at eye level for best results |
| Audio | Built-in microphone and speaker, or headphones for privacy |
Troubleshooting tip: If your video or audio is choppy, try moving closer to your Wi-Fi router, closing other browser tabs, or switching from Wi-Fi to cellular data (or vice versa).
What Can Be Done via Virtual Visit
Virtual visits work well for many types of appointments, including:
- Follow-up visits for known conditions
- Birth control consultations and prescription refills
- UTI symptoms and bladder infection treatment
- Cold and flu symptoms including cough, sore throat, and fever
- Gestational diabetes follow-up (diet control or log review up to 32 weeks)
- Medication management and dosage adjustments
- Mental health check-ins related to pregnancy or postpartum recovery
- Lab result reviews and next-step planning
- Post-surgical follow-up when no physical exam is needed
What Requires an In-Person Visit
Some things need hands-on evaluation. Your provider will let you know if your concern requires an office visit instead:
- Annual Well Woman exams (Pap smear, breast exam, pelvic exam)
- First prenatal visit and pregnancy confirmation
- Procedures such as IUD placement, biopsies, or colposcopy
- Ultrasounds and imaging
- New pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, or lumps that need physical examination
- Any emergency symptoms (heavy bleeding, severe pain, signs of preeclampsia)
If you are unsure whether your concern can be handled virtually, call us at 480-821-3601 and our scheduling team will help you decide.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a MomDoc virtual visit, you need to have had at least one in-person visit with a MomDoc provider within the last three years. Accepted visit types include:
- An annual Well Woman exam
- A first pregnancy visit
- An initial GYN consultation
If you are a brand-new patient, your first appointment will be in person so your provider can establish a complete baseline. After that, many follow-up visits can move to Virtual Visit format.
Insurance and Virtual Visits
Most insurance plans cover Virtual Visits at the same rate as in-person visits. Your copay, deductible, and coinsurance apply the same way. If you have questions about your specific coverage, call us at 480-821-3601 before scheduling.
