Your First Visit at MomDoc
We designed our first-visit experience to feel less like a doctor's office and more like being welcomed into a friend's living room. Here is everything you need to know before you arrive.
Photo ID
A valid driver's license, state ID, or passport. We verify your identity at check-in for your safety.
Insurance Card
Front and back. If you have secondary insurance, bring that card too. No insurance? No problem — we have an on-site Health-e-Arizona Assistor who can sit with you and apply for AHCCCS coverage at no cost.
Medication List
Include prescription drugs, over-the-counter supplements, and vitamins. Dosages are helpful but not required on your first visit.
Period Tracking Data
If you use an app like Flo or Clue, have your last few cycles ready to share. A rough estimate of your last period works too.
Referral (if needed)
Some insurance plans require a referral from your primary care doctor. Check with your plan before your visit to avoid surprises.
Questions for Your Provider
Write them down. We set aside time during every appointment for your questions, so do not feel rushed.
What Happens When You Arrive
Forget everything you know about doctor's office check-ins. At MomDoc, there is no sliding glass window and no clipboard full of redundant paperwork.
When you walk through the door, a Medical Concierge (MC) greets you by name. You will sit in our Living Room, a space designed with comfortable furniture, warm lighting, and a calm atmosphere. The administrative details of your visit are handled personally, face to face, by a team member with a tablet.
Your first appointment typically lasts 45 to 60 minutes. New patient visits are intentionally longer than follow-ups because your provider wants to get the full picture of your health history, your goals, and any concerns you have right now.
Here is the general flow:
- Check-in with your MC (5 minutes)
- Vitals taken by a medical assistant (5 minutes)
- One-on-one time with your provider (30 to 40 minutes)
- Wrap-up at the front desk: scheduling follow-ups, lab orders, or referrals (5 minutes)
How to Prepare
You do not need to do anything special. Come as you are. A few optional steps can make your visit smoother:
- Eat normally before your appointment. Fasting is not required unless your provider specifically asks for fasting lab work.
- Wear comfortable clothing. If a physical exam is part of your visit, you will change into a gown, so choose something easy to take on and off.
- Arrive 10 minutes early for your first visit only. After that, we keep things moving on time.
- Bring a list of questions. Writing down your questions ahead of time helps make sure nothing gets missed during your visit.
What Happens After Your First Visit
When lab work or test results come in, your provider will schedule a follow-up to review them with you in person or via a Virtual Visit. We review results with you personally so you understand what the data means. Your provider may also call you directly if anything needs follow-up.
If your provider recommended follow-up care, our front desk team will help you schedule your next appointment before you leave. For specialty referrals, our team handles the coordination and will reach out with scheduling details.
Have questions between visits? Call us at 480-821-3601. We are available Monday through Thursday, 7 AM to 8 PM, Fridays, 7 AM to 6 PM, and Saturdays, 8 AM to 5 PM.
If You Do Not Have Insurance
MomDoc has an on-site Health-e-Arizona Assistor who can help you apply for AHCCCS (Arizona Medicaid) at no cost. They will sit with you, complete the application together, submit your documents electronically, and track it through approval. If you are pregnant and qualify, AHCCCS coverage includes no premiums, no copays, and extends 12 months after delivery.
If AHCCCS is not the right fit, we offer a sliding fee scale based on family size and income. No one is denied care for inability to pay.

For Prenatal Patients
If your first visit with us is for pregnancy care, plan for a longer appointment (about 60 to 90 minutes). You will meet your provider, confirm your pregnancy with lab work, and receive a detailed overview of what your prenatal care schedule will look like.
Bring any records from a previous OB/GYN or fertility specialist, as well as any prenatal vitamins you are currently taking so your provider can review them.
