(Mesa, AZ) - Today at 9:00 AM, Grayson J. Guzman, M.D., became the first doctor at Mountain Vista Medical Center to perform a surgery using the robotic da Vinci Surgical System. The surgery was a laparoscopic total hysterectomy.
Dr. Guzman has been an associate at Drs. Goodman & Partridge, OB/GYN for over 2 years, and has been at the forefront of healthcare advances in Arizona ever since. He was the first physician to perform a surgery at Mountain Vista Medical Center shortly after it opened in 2007. He also delivered the first baby at that hospital.
"It is an honor to be involved in bringing this cutting edge technology to our patients," Dr. Guzman said. "This exciting new modality will benefit so many people in so many ways."
The da Vinci Surgical System, introduced in 1999, is a robotic- and computer- assisted platform for minimally invasive surgery. The surgeon sits at a console attached to robotic arms that mimic and scale the actual motions of the surgeon's hands, allowing for more precise control of instruments.
